The Horse paper newsletter started in 2008. I was asked if I would be interested in typing and updating the photos for the paper. I was interested in helping and said yes.

It was started by Gloria and Holly – Gloria worked for the South Side Journal and was doing all the paste up, Holly was selling all the ads, then I was delivering it to the printer (at that time we used paste up boards and it had to be hand carried to the printer).

When the paper was delivered to me, Gloria picked up a bunch of them and the rest was up to me. We wrapped many, many bundles, sending them out to advertisers, tack shops, farms, clubs and also to all the current subscribers which had to be sorted, labeled, rubber banded and delivered to the USPS Downtown.

A few issues later, Gloria resigned and Holly and I continued the paper until she moved to Florida a few years later. Well, there I was, on my own, but because I liked what I was doing and was also learning about horses, which I had never been around before, I decided to try to keep publishing the paper.

Well, as you know the economy got to the point where it was expensive. I talked to my computer person and decided not to print any longer, but had him design a website. I had two sales people out selling ads at the time, Phil left to take care of both his parents, and after they passed, Phil himself passed away. Meg was a great sales person, but unfortunately she also had to leave to take care of her mother, so away she went to Kansas City. so, I know longer had a sales person.

It doesn’t seem like there’s anyone out there that is interested in doing that kind of work. So, we created the website and I now type the paper in layout form and upload it on the internet to the website. Prices are so high that printing and delivering is almost impossible. So I hope all you understand why this is online only for right now, If I am ever able to get a good sales person, someday I hope to go back to printing, that is, if and when prices return to normal. In the meantime, I create the paper each month and also handle the bookkeeping for Printing Unlimited (I have owned this company for over 52 years).

I also volunteer at handling the newspaper for the Roosevelt High School Alumni Association, keeping myself pretty busy. Thanks so much for your support over the years to help keep this paper alive. I would also like to thank Cindy Roberts, Bill Cooper, Heather Thomas, Eleanor Blazer, Dennis Cappell, Kathy at Mustang Sanctuary, Julie Fershtman and numerous others who have helped me continue to do this paper.

We started our business in the early 1970’s in our home which was in a small subdivision in Affton, not far from where we are today. We started out doing typesetting and layout, then we went to making film and plates for other printers in the area. As time went on, we grew and  added printing presses and then moved to a store front on Gravois, near Mackenzie and became a local neighborhood family owned print shop.

Our oldest daughter Cheryl was in her last year of high school when she joined our operation and has continued to work with us since then. She is now managing the print shop, taking orders, talking to customers and doing the typesetting and design work. A very consuming job. Her husband also works here as our printer and has for many, many years.  We have the capabilities of the larger print shops, and over 52 years of experience. We are small, but mighty as they say.

We moved our business in May of 2016 to a new location since our building for the last 28 years was torn down. We are now located in South Towne Square. Suite F a business district off the view of the public, but continue to do business as usual serving all our faithful customers.

We provide you with personal service, excellent design work and high quality printing at a very affordable price. We also offer direct mail service, copies, faxing, and notary service.
